Can-Am: A Pioneer In Powersports Equipment
Originally, Can-Am started in the motorcycle industry in the mid-1970s. With Rotax engines developed by Bombardier Recreational Products or BRP, many riders preferred Can-Am® bikes because they could win many medals in international races. However, Can-Am moved into the All-Terrain Vehicle or ATV industry in the 1990s. Today, the company is most known for producing recreational powersports vehicles. At Revolutions Power Sports in Grand Forks, North Dakota, you can browse through various Can-Am ATV models we have available. We welcome customers from Fargo and West Fargo, North Dakota, as well.
Origins of the Canadian Bombardier Corporation
The Canadian Bombardier Corporation got its start back in 1973. An American engineer by the name of Gary Robinson and Jeff Smith, a Motocross World Champion, started producing motocross and enduro bikes. These motorcycles were so popular that they were specially equipped and used by the British Army back in the 1970s, and they're still in use today in the Belgian Army.
The Canadian conglomerate Bombardier was started in 1942 by Joseph Armand Bombardier in Quebec. The company was a successful manufacturer of business jets, mass transportation vehicles, and recreational equipment. BRP manufactured the Rotax engines in many Can-Am vehicles. Additionally, BRP is well known for its personal watercraft vehicle line, Sea-Doo.
Even though the motocross bikes were successful, The company decided to reduce the funding put into them. Although they attempted to relaunch motocross bikes in 1983, they chose to divert their funds and attention elsewhere. 1987 was the last year of production of Can-Am motorcycles.
Onto All-Terrain Vehicles
The Canadian Bombardier Corporation entered into the powersports equipment market in February 1997. The first prototype ATV model was called The Traxter, and it was later named "The ATV of the year." Another popular model from Can-Am is The Spyder® Roadster.
The Spyder® Beast hosts a V-Twin 990cc engine and can be considered a motorcycle-convertible car hybrid with three wheels in a Y design. This model produces speeds up to 106 hp. In addition, the company presently manufactures many recreational powersports vehicles, such as snowmobiles, ATVs, karts, and more.
Whether it's for recreational or military use, Can-Am is a leader in the ATV industry. With many successful and popular models, it's easy to see why.
